CT selection for monitoring the total sub-panel energy use.
The total sub panel energy may be monitored from the subpanel location or the sub-panel circuit breaker located at the main panel. In cases where it is anticipated to monitor all of the sub-panel circuits then it may be redundant to monitor the total sub panel load since the sum of the sub-panel circuit power will represent the total.
Since fairly heavy wire is used to supply the sub-panel, it may be difficult to disconnect for use with Micro CTs. In this case, split-core type CTs may be preferable.
