The wireless method of combining the data from multiple ECM-1240 devices is favoured to that of using a MUX cable however it is more expensive since each ECM-1240 device requires the optional wireless radio installed.
NOTE: The ECM-1240's wireless option is not "WiFi" communication such as used by most laptops. The ECM-1240 uses ZigBee® communication protocol on a "mesh" network. This protocol does a good job of avoiding packet collisions when multiple ECM-1240 devices are communicating with the same gateway.
The options for combining multiple wireless ECM devices (including ECM-1220) to a single computer port are:
- Multiple ECM-1240 devices to a single "U2Z Wireless Dongle" to a single USB port.
- Multiple ECM-1240 devices to a single "EtherBee" gateway to a single RJ-45 Ethernet computer port.
